As you shop around for a security system, no doubt your main goal is to feel safe. But a home security system includes cameras that could potentially capture personal moments in your family’s lives. The last thing you want is to give someone access to your personal camera footage.

Cove understands your concerns about privacy and who can access camera feeds. We want everyone to feel safe, and that includes keeping your private security camera footage private. In this article, we’ll look at who has access to your security camera footage.

Can Cove See Through My Security System Cameras?

No, Cove cannot see your live footage through your security cameras or access any saved clips. The only exception is if you purposely share footage with us. While other Cove equipment will send notifications to our monitoring team when your system is armed, the motion sensors on your cameras will only alert you, not Cove.

Cove has three types of security cameras and each one can save your camera footage in a different way. Knowing how your private footage is stored can help you keep it more secure.

Doorbell Camera: Clips captured by the Eufy Doorbell Camera are stored on the Wi-Fi chime, not in the cloud, and you must download them to your phone in order to permanently save them.

Outdoor Camera: The Eufy Outdoor Camera stores video locally on the camera. This video can then be downloaded through the app and saved to your phone. Clips from this camera currently cannot be saved on the cloud.

Indoor Camera: You have a choice here. The Eufy Indoor Camera recordings can be stored locally on a microSD card or on the cloud (with access through the Eufy app).

At Cove, ensuring your safety goes hand in hand with safeguarding your privacy and data. Our systems are meticulously crafted to offer homeowners peace of mind without sacrificing their privacy rights.

Could Someone Hack My Wi-Fi to Gain Access?

Since Cove operates via Wi-Fi connection, you may be wondering if someone could possibly hack into your cameras that way. While it may be possible, it’s very rare and would require someone with savvy technical skills.

Cove's security system operates through a combination of sensors, a control panel, and a monitoring center. Communication between sensors and the control panel utilizes 345 MHz radio waves, while the panel communicates with the monitoring station via a secure 4G cellular connection. This setup minimizes the risk of hacking compared to Wi-Fi-based systems.

Additionally, Cove implements measures to prevent jamming attacks, ensuring the reliability of the system. We are committed to protecting your data and privacy with technology that’s designed to keep prying eyes away from your home. Military-grade AES-128 data encryption ensures your footage is kept private on transmission and storage.

One way to keep safe is to always choose a unique Wi-Fi password and change as needed. Always turn on a multi-factor authentication option so if you’re resetting your password or logging onto a new device, it’ll double check that you are who you say you are. Some users also opt to use a separate Wi-Fi network for their security devices.

Cove’s Privacy Policy

Cove understands the importance of maintaining customer privacy while ensuring safety. Our systems are meticulously designed to offer peace of mind without compromising privacy rights.

Cove’s Privacy Policy outlines how personal information, including video footage captured by security cameras, is collected, utilized, and safeguarded. Data encryption and secure storage protocols are in place, with access limited to authorized personnel for troubleshooting or homeowner requests.

Can Police Take My Security Footage?

The short answer is, it depends.

If law enforcement ever wants access to your home security footage, it’s important to know your rights. If video footage from your security camera shows evidence that could help police convict a criminal, they will obviously want access to that video.

According to the law, you do not have to hand over any video footage without a warrant. Of course, you are also welcome to turn over footage to police if they ask and you’re okay giving it to them.

To keep your other footage safe, be sure to only hand over the relevant files. Don’t give them your camera or access to your account that stores your footage. Simply download the file and email it to the officer. Cove may collaborate with law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations, but such cooperation is contingent upon legal mandates.

Tips for Enhanced Security

Cove grants homeowners significant control over camera feeds. Through intuitive user interfaces, users can customize permissions and restrictions, dictating who can view live footage or access recorded videos. This empowerment allows homeowners to maintain control over their privacy and decide who can monitor their property.

In addition to Cove's built-in security measures, homeowners can take proactive steps to further enhance security. Regular system updates, strong passwords, and two-factor authentication are recommended practices. Configuring Wi-Fi networks securely, such as changing default settings and encryption protocols, further protects against potential vulnerabilities.
